UPPER SCHOOL
Film & Broadcasting I: Students plan, design, film and edit videos from start to finish. Students use digital video cameras and learn the techniques necessary to record quality video. Students study the video production process, the various roles in a production crew, and analyze media using a Biblical Worldview. Students learn basic video editing skills using video editing software. During this course, students produce both individual video projects and group video projects and produce videos for public performance including production of student news and chapel films.
Film & Broadcasting II: Students strengthen technical skills required to record quality video with an emphasis on producing content for an audience and developing advanced editing techniques such as video compositing and special effects. Student news and short films are produced as part of the class. Students learn client communication skills, create short-subject documentaries or narrative films, and shoot commercials as well as learn about professional level broadcast and studio equipment.
Film & Broadcasting III: In this course, students complete a program of self-study in film & broadcast production under the guidance of a PCA staff member. The course emphasizes hands-on, real-world experience. Students are expected to produce videos for a variety of audiences, such as special-event videos, chapel videos, student news, and educational videos. Students will intern under industry professionals for one semester. Student mastery of objectives is documented and evaluated using a portfolio.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
Intro to Film & Broadcasting Students plan, design, film, and edit videos for audience consumption. Students use digital video cameras and learn the techniques necessary to record quality video. Students study the video production process and analyze media using a biblical worldview. Students learn basic video editing skills using video editing software. During this course, students produce both individual video projects and group video projects and produce videos for public performance with an emphasis on producing student news packages and announcement videos as well as narrative films. Students also learn how to export finished videos for a variety of delivery formats.
