Prestonwood Christian Academy's Pom Squad is a dance team that performs at football games, halftimes, pep rallies, and other various school functions. The girls on the Pom Squad learn many genres to perform throughout the season, such as jazz, hip-hop, jazz funk, and pom. They participate in contests, competitions, and performances, and have taken home many awards for their outstanding work. In addition to their own performances, the students on the Pom Squad also have the opportunity to mentor girls in second through fourth grade through the Pommies Program.
Gwin was born and raised in Hoover, Alabama, where she trained at Birmingham Dance Theatre for 16 years. Growing up, she trained in jazz, pointe ballet, contemporary, tap, hip hop, and even clogging! She began competing at age 7, earning numerous regional and national titles across the country. At 15, she was selected for West Coast Dance Explosion’s Fuzion Dance Company under the direction of Kim Wolfe, where she traveled nationwide assisting WCDE faculty in cities coast to coast.
During her freshman year at Hoover High School, Gwin was selected for the Hoover High School Buccanettes and had the opportunity to compete at NDA High School Nationals in Orlando, FL.
She continued her dance journey at Southern Methodist University, earning a B.A. in Journalism, B.A. in Fashion Media, and a minor in Advertising. While at SMU, Gwin was a member of the SMU Pom Squad, performing at all home football, basketball, and volleyball games, and representing the university at NDA/NCA College Nationals in Daytona Beach, FL.
Gwin also spent three summers on staff with the Universal Dance Association (UDA), traveling across the Southeast to lead camps and inspire the next generation of dancers. Through UDA, she had the opportunity to work UDA High School Nationals in Orlando, FL, along with several regional Varsity competitions across the country.
After graduation, Gwin officially made Dallas her home. She now works full time for a social media agency, is a second-year member of the Dallas Mavericks D-Town Crew, and coaches at Dance Athletics Plano. As a D-Town Crew dancer, she has performed in NBA halftime shows alongside various artists and had the honor of dancing in the NBA Finals. She also works with Crowd Pleasers Dance as a judge and guest choreographer for summer camps and intensives.
Through our Pommies program, female students in second through fourth grade are invited to explore a variety of dance styles taught by our Pom Squad, who serve as positive role models and mentors while encouraging and supporting younger dancers. This experience with our competitive, award-winning dance team provides opportunities for young dancers to perform alongside them at select events, including varsity football games—building confidence, connection, and a strong sense of belonging. As students grow in skill and confidence, they are encouraged to discover and develop their God-given gifts while cultivating a genuine appreciation for dance.
