Host Family

What is a Homestay?

When a high school student from another country comes to Prestonwood Christian Academy to study, many of them need a place to live. PCA desires for our students to stay in a safe, loving Christian home with a host family. When you become a Host Family for an International Student at PCA, you provide not only a caring environment but also the opportunity to experience and demonstrate God's love as never before!

Welcoming a student from another culture is an experience that everyone in the family will benefit from. It is an opportunity to learn more about the world and the chance to understand another culture and life experiences. As a Host Family, you can experience the pleasure of offering Biblical hospitality as you share God's love through everyday life.

Frequently Asked Questions about Homestays

What is the time commitment?

As a full-time Host Family, the time frame for hosting an International Student is one academic year or 10 months.

PCA's International Student Program is also in need of respite Host Families who will be an emergency backup for fill in if a Host Family has another commitment or emergency. This time commitment could be from one night to a month.

What are the expectations?

Provide a caring and safe environment for an International Student while they are in the US to get a strong education. This means a bedroom in your home and a bathroom (shared or private). Daily meals should also be provided. The student is expected to clean up after themselves and do their own laundry. You may need to help your International Student as they navigate American  customs and culture.

Invite your International Student to become a special member of your family and encourage them to participate in your family life and activities. Sometimes the students may need advice or help with homework. Host Parents are encouraged to offer these, if able.

What about transportation?

Host families are expected to provide transportation to and from school every day and to reasonable school and social activities. We do not allow our students to use Uber or other ride sharing companies.

What about the student's expenses?

Host families receive a stipend from the Homestay Agency to cover most living expenses for the student. Any special requests (makeup, social activities with friends, etc.) are the student's responsibility.
